  • Family time in Tennessee

The other week, we took Reids and went to Tennessee to visit Richard's aunt and cousin and extended family.  We had a great time in Parsons.  When you go visiting like we did, instead of just catching up with people at a reunion, you really get to spend quaility time with them.  We had a wonderful time with Aunt Inez and Uncle Larry where Reid and Kathryn stayed.  We stayed at a motel in town and enjoyed hanging out with Richard's cousin Carmen and her family.  We spent time in their pool, went to a minor league ballgame, had a picnic and just chilled.  We came home on Monday, the 13th and had a wonderful visit from Wendy, Justin and Brian.  Heather was in Lynchburg all week at soccer camp so they came over and had dinner.  This past week was kinda crazy with Aunt Anna being in the hospital.  She could not put any weight on her right foot, it just gave out.  She had a lot of pain and couldn't even lay completely flat without severe pain.  We took her to the ER on Tuesday morning and they did xrays, MRI and couldn't find anything.  They went ahead and admitted her and ran more tests on Wed.  They did a CT scan and nothing showed  up.  She came home Thursday afternoon.  We gave her a walker and she seems to be doing ok getting around.  At this point, a pinched nerve is the best idea they can come up with.  She does have an appointment with the  Neurolgist Tuesday.  This next week, Richard, Isaac and I will take my dad and head for Holmes County.  We have some buying for the store on Friday and Saturday we have a family reunion.  We will leave there on Saturday afternoon and go to Grantsville, MD for a Broadwater reunion on Sunday.  Dad will stay in Ohio and ride back on the truck Tuesday that brings our load of furniture.

  • Great Summer Evenings!

We are really enjoying our summer.   Last week, Richard & Jesse went to Monterrey Mexico with a group from New Life School and went to the YWAM base down there and had a great week of ministry.  They went to an Cerebral Palsy orphanage, worked at a soup kitchen,  took food to folks waiting at the hospital, went door to door and gave out Bibles, played with children in the streets, did puppet shows, skits and helped out at a church one day.  It was a very busy, hot week but very rewarding and they can't wait to go again.  Isaac and I had planned to go to Florida while they were gone but that didn't work out so we spent the week going to the pool, working some at Amish Originals, keeping up the yard  and garden work around here and fishing.  Next week, we are heading to Tennessee for a few days to visit with Richard's Aunt, cousin and their families.  We are looking forward to getting away for some rest and relaxation.

Last evening, we went back to the pond at Steve's and Isaac caught the "trophy".  He now has beat Richard's record for the biggest fish.  It was a large mouth bass that was 24" long and weighed 7 1/2 lbs.  He was so excited.  It is so much fun to see him get so much enjoyment of fishing as he does.  Jesse had gone off to the fireworks with friends.

Today, Richard, Isaac, Reid & Kathryn are heading to Chesapeake for the annual Lehman family picnic.  I am staying back to work and go to my friend Susies for dinner. Some friends are up from Chesapeake, and I am looking forward to visiting with them.

Blessings for everyone to have a safe weekend.  CarolJuly 2009 010

  • Birthdays and Fishing!

Sunday night, we had a birthday party for Reid and Kathryn at their house.  Reid's birthday was Saturday and Kathryn's is this Friday.  Here is a picture of the birthday couple...

Last night, Richard, Isaac and Reid went fishing.  I received a phone call to come back to the pond, "Quick, with a camera and scale".  Richard had caught this 6 1/2 lb Bass that was 23" long.  Lots of excitement for a short evening of fishing!

  • Believer or Disciple??

Awesome sermon today and a great challenge....  We go through life as believers in Jesus, which most of us find relatively easy to do.   We read in the Bible about the cost of being a disciple back when Jesus was here on this earth.  How many of us today are really disciples?  How much has being a Christian really cost us??  How many of us not only live Christian lives but truly reach out to the lost, doing everything we can to change someone's eternal destiny?    Talk about getting my toes stepped on, major conviction for me here.  It has been so easy to get caught up in "our" lives, doing for the church, being busy with day to day things and there are folks around us every day who don't ever hear us proclaim the love of Jesus.   I have come to realize that when I reach Heaven's gate, I don't want just to enter, I truly want to hear "Well done, thy good and faithful servant".  I know that I have failed many times, and for that, I am truly sorry.  Jesse and I went into a Christian clothing store the other month in Richmond.  Before we left, the clerk(approximately 18-22years old) asked us as we checked out, "Is there anything that I can pray with you guys for?"  I stood there and cried.  To have a young person be so bold and proclaim Jesus was a huge inspiration.  I just know that if the day comes when our freedom is taken away to live our faith, how many of us will wonder why didn't we speak Jesus more to others. Hope this challenges you like it did me.   Praying for each of you to have a blessed week!

  • Exhausted.....

Last night, the phone rang at 1am...at that time, it scares you as you are awakened.  It was to let us know that one of the buildings in the 200 block of Main Street was on fire.  I jumped up, woke Richard and quickly dressed and we headed into town.  We found out the exact address was 3 buildings down but still too close for comfort.  We got here and we quickly unloaded all the stuff from the safe into containers and loaded them into my vehicle.  Thankfully, there was no wind and it was completely contained to the building and the one to the right of it.  We walked around giving drinks and snacks to the firefighters and any other equipment that they  needed.  We got home around 4:30 and slept for about 2 hours.  Just feeling very blessed today for God's protection not only for the rest of the businesses downtown (the store was vacant that caught fire)but for all of the volunteers who stayed up all night and then went on to their real jobs today.  Here are a few photos of the night.
